Greensboro Youth Jazz Ensemble
Students who are interested in participating in the next semester of the GYJE should send a message with your name, instrument, years of playing experience, school and email address by clicking HERE.
This is an awesome opportunity to be a part of jazz education in Greensboro, and I look forward to working with these wonderful students! Students who participate in the Ensemble will have the opportunity to learn large ensemble charts, perform and present their hard work for the semester, and work with clinician musicians for coaching over the course of the semester. Most importantly, students will have the opportunity to work on their craft with others who have the same enthusiasm for the jazz idiom.
Tuition for participation is $50.00 per semester, payable by check to The Music Center. Please bring your check on our first meeting, TBA.
Students should be prepared to audition with the following:
1) Brass and woodwinds: Prepare and present a blues and rhythm changes of your choice, including melody and improvisation (accompaniment will be provided)
2) Rhythm section instruments: Prepare and present a blues and rhythm changes of your choice to comp behind; demonstrate one chorus of improvisation for either the blues or the first two A's of the rhythm changes selection.
3) All instruments: Sight-read the melody from a lead sheet from the Real Book of either a riff blues or jazz standard, such as "Take the A Train." (N/A to drums)
